anatomy mantle cross-section cortical (epidermal) cells mean tangential length CCt

unit: µm

Average tangential measurement of the cortex cells should be calculated as the mean value using the individual measurements taken earlier. Only a whole number should be given as a value, e.g. 65 µm. The dimensions of cortical (epidermal) cells with Hartig net are variable depending upon their distance from the root tip, whether they are formed by outer rows or by inner rows of root cells, and also regarding the tree genus involved in the formation of ectomycorrhizae. Up to now, only very limited information is available about the influence of the fungus on the shape and dimensions of cortical cells. Possibly, this feature can be disregarded for characterization and determination, as there is considerable variation within the mycorrhiza as well as between mycorrhizae of the same fungal species on one and the same host.
