Anatomy Anatomical features of the entire mycorrhiza

anatomy entire mycorrhiza emanating elements cystidia location

1 generally present
2 on outer mantle layer
3 on rhizomorphs

Cystidia of the very tip are mostly less differentiated and consequently less typical than at the remaining parts of the mantle. Sometimes young emanating hyphae give the impression of being cystidia. But most of the time, they are completely full of cytoplasm, whereas cystidia lack cytoplasm rather early. In some Lactarius species, the very tip produces thin-walled short cystidia which is often quite difficult to be detected at the remaining parts of the mantle.
